YouTube retailers gain more control over branding with the latest Youtube TrueView features
Have you ever used YouTube TrueView? The new TrueView for shopping ads gives you the opportunity to showcase product images and details within your video ad, along with the ability to add a click to purchase button. In this article we are introducing you to the newest e-commerce features on YouTube that give retailers even more control over branding.
How does YouTube TrueView work?
People watch videos they are interested in, and you want your video ads to get views from viewers you know would be curious about your ad. Since nobody wants to bombard users with online ads they don’t really want to see, YouTube TrueView lets you give them the choice.
There are two types of TrueView ads:
TrueView in-stream ads are the ads that play before or during another video from a YouTube partner. After 5 seconds of watching your video, viewers then have the choice to keep watching or press the skip button. The great thing about the in-stream ads is that you only pay when someone watches at least 30 seconds of the video (or till the end of it, if it’s shorter than 30 seconds) or clicks on a card or other elements of your in-stream video ad.
TrueView in-display ads are the ads that appear next to other YouTube videos, in YouTube search results, or on websites on the Google Display Network that are similar to your target audience. You get charged when a viewer chooses to watch your video by clicking on it.
You won’t be restricted by time limits as TrueView ads are opt-in. Meaning, you are free to try and experiment with creativity and different formats – longer video demos, how-to videos, success stories or testimonials.
In order to use TrueView, you need to connect your TrueView ad campaign with a Merchant Center feed. Then you will be able to add products to your in-stream videos, customized for each viewer through contextual and audience data like demographic info.

The new features in YouTube TrueView for Shopping
With the aim to give retailers more control over branding, Google just introduced 2 new features in the YouTube TrueView for shopping:
The first feature is a companion banner. Google ads a new interactive banner, which is going to appear next to the video ad. It will allow viewers to scroll through products while the video is still playing. The banner will also show the latest updated information about each product.
A handy product picker is the second feature that comes with this update. It gives advertisers the option to effortlessly choose and arrange which products will be featured as cards in TrueView for their shopping ad campaign. This feature is optional and will let advertisers show specific products for specific campaigns.
The new features will row out gradually starting this month.
This latest TrueView for shopping update gives e-commerce retailers an advanced level of customization. As long as they track and optimize their YouTube video ads, they will definitely see a lot of benefits in using YouTube’s TrueView for product promotions. Overall, YouTube TrueView is an awesome opportunity that lets brands and retailers connect with their target audiences using the great power of video content.
